There is little question that the single most important events every four years as Americans choose their President are the nationally-televised debates. Yet, few Americans are aware that those debates are, in reality, sponsored by a private organization created by the two major political parties and funded largely by corporations.
Even worse, few are aware that, since the Commission on Presidential Debates was created, those who control it have made it clear that they have little or no interest in allowing third party or independent candidates to participate.
This systematic exclusion of independent voices flies in the face of the fact that poll after poll shows that an overwhelming majority of Americans WANT qualified, credible third party and independent candidates to be included in the Presidential Debates.
The Our America Foundation is committed to raising public awareness about the nature and control of the debates, as well as the dramatic impact fair debates could have on not only presidential elections, but American politics and policy in general.
